i’ve been obsessed with our kitchen table lately. usually the mess that gathers here would drive me crazy, but i started to see the beauty in the clutter and abandoned activity that was happening in this place. we spend a lot of our time here throughout the day. games are played, paint is splattered, writing is practiced,  science labs are created, food is enjoyed, mail gets sorted, conversations are had. it shows the ebb and flow of our day to day life and i can’t stop taking pictures of it. most days we are shoving its contents to the side in order to sit at the table to eat, but every once in a while it gets a fresh start.

my new favorite summer treat. gin and juice. and also the foil tops on the sanpellegrino can. i wish those came on every canned beverage. it grosses me out when i get a canned drink and then realize the top of it is dirty/dusty. or does that just happen to me? anyway, i think we should start a petition to make sure there are no more naked cans.

summer seems to be never ending here (which isn’t necessarily a bad thing). but, i can feel the change of the seasons coming and when it does i’m going to miss my little ones looking like this. half dressed summertime babes. really there is nothing sweeter than a shirtless bea in overalls. when she puts those on it signals that she’s ready to get down to business. usually it means she wants to “farm”. whatever her plan she usually ends up covered in dirt. and a boy  in super hero underoos? he won’t be cute in those forever (seriously, what is the cut off age for that? 10? 12?), so i’ll continue snapping pictures of him in them now for his future embarrassment.

so, these are a few of my (very) random summer loves/obsessions. what were some of your random loves/obsessions from the summer?

I love your random summer loves/obsessions…especially the clutter zone at the top. It looks like a warm, friendly place to hang out. My summer loves include: biking to my favorite Italian specialty store for a chocolate cannoli, sprawling out at the park and reading or listening to tunes, going for a long, sweaty hike and taking a dip in the lake afterwards.

that clutter is nothing in that photo! that’s practically clean clutter. usually there are plates of nibbled food, bike helmets, and ongoing “experiments” covering the table as well!

oh, a cannoli sounds so good right now! i would give anything right now for a lazy day reading outside. i’m really looking forward to the weather cooling off.

I can’t begin to tell you how much I loved each and every one of these pictures.

We had that Chipettes glass, too!

thank you! i’ve taken to buying up all those old glasses (when they’re characters the little ones like) when i see a good price on them. honestly, i use them more than they do : )

Mmmmm….lately wine has taken a backseat to gin here. I love mine with gingerale. We don’t buy the San Pallegrino often, but if you’re a fancy bitch, I can be one too. I’ll have to pick some up real soon.

LOVE your dining table shots. I want to sit there with you guys and craft, eat and drink. One of these days…

yeah, we don’t buy the fancy stuff that often either. that’s why it’s a treat! you better believe i’ll treat you to the fancy shit when you join us at the table.

I’m totally going to do up some gin ‘n (pellegrino) juice this weekend. Such a good idea.

Random love and obsession? Well, I kind of feel like summer started and finished before I even started. The one thing I discovered this summer, however, is making mini ice cream sandwiches with Girl Scout thin mint cookies.

    • August 23, 2012

so, you’re one of those people that can save girl scout cookies? who are you people : ) they would never last in this house!! sounds delicious and just the perfect size for that kind of treat though. i’ll have remind myself to super stash a few extra boxes next time we get some!

Ha ha! I did have to hide it deep in the freezer, so no one would be the wiser. We had to house the cookies at the end of the crazy cookie season (oh. my.), so it was a constant temptation to ‘just buy one more box.’ I got pretty cookied out by the end.

I am so with you on the foil on those cans… makes them xtra klassy, no?

    • September 11, 2012

yes and clean! i just wish the drink wasn’t so sugary.

“… food is enjoyed … conversations are had.” — These have to be the most awkward things that I have ever heard done at a kitchen table, especially if they’re done together, in the same sitting.

Random ick usually finds its way onto the top of my Mt. Dew cans on a regular basis. Warm water, possibly some soap. There’s no telling where it comes from or how it gets there. I dare not take the risk at times.

Congratulations on getting useful blackmail for when your son gets a girlfriend; I’m sure he’ll love you forever and ever.

My random loves and enjoyments are usually the same each summer. Each summer is rather lacking for me, though my main summer interest consists of two words: Women. Bikini. — Thankfully I have many other interests to keep my attention during the months of warm weather that I am unable to make too much of a splash.

when you have two young kids there is a lot of talking going on at all times, whether food is being enjoyed or not.
that random ick is exactly why those foil tops rock. luckily all the canned drinks we consume are referred to as mix, so they aren’t getting opened too often.

I just discovered the blood orange pellegrino, now I need to track some down with some gin. I’m a bit obsessed with your bookshelves, where’d you get them?

    • September 11, 2012

i will now be on the look out for the blood orange pellegrino. i had no idea that existed! the shelves are wood salvaged from matt’s grandparents barn. matt’s dad built them ages ago. i love them and love that you appreciate them, too : )

it has been the summer of the underpants here in our house too! no shirt required. 3rd floor living aids in this as well i think. i was just home in PA and a family member (who shall remain unnamed) saw 2 little neighbor boys playing outside in their underoos. this disgusted said family member. all i could do was laugh.. really THAT upsets you? good thing said family member doesn’t really like me anyway and therefor never comes to maine to be subjected by my loose household of underpants wearing hooligans… sometime i wonder how the HELL i am related to these epoeple…

    • September 11, 2012

i’m sure we have family that would feel the same way. i just don’t know if anyone would say anything to us. they know we wouldn’t care : )
better the kids running around in their unders than me!
