Florida.  Vacation mornings.  Who doesn’t love them?!  Who doesn’t long for them?!  Waking up in a new place, devouring breakfast, and rushing off to explore the area makes me giddy.  Wanderlust.  My curious, gypsy soul aches for it.

As hard as I try, and in spite of the lists I make, there’s always something I forget or misjudge, like the size of a bathing suit.  This year, not only did I purchase the wrong size suit, but I also came up short with flip-flops that turned out to be too small, thus resulting in blisters.  Mother of the year?  No, and I’m good with that.

Do you know what else makes me giddy?  Time to myself on the beach in the early morning hours.  A chance to clear my head and breathe in the ocean air, while my mind drifts to what is, what was, and what might be.  On this morning, I awoke to thick fog just as the sun was beginning to rise.  I downed a cup of coffee, grabbed two cameras (I’m still struggling with film), and headed out to see what I’d find.

What do your vacation mornings look like?  Do you have a travel ritual?  Is there a favorite city you return to each year?  Perhaps there’s someplace you’re eager to travel.  Share your wanderlust with me…

That fog is so dreamy. I haven’t had a family vacation in forever, so I can’t even begin to tell you my morning routine. I should probably fix that soon.

Woman, I am now aching for the ocean. The sound, the smell, the salty residue it leaves on my skin. How I’d relish a vacay morning right now! Thanks for sharing your mornings with us!

I want to take a walk along that path out into the ocean! Take me on your next vacation! I like your travel mornings, and it’s ok if you get me a bathing suit that shows my crack. I won’t even care 😉

i am longing for a chilly, slightly foggy, beach side morning shared with a hot cup of coffee and my camera. the sound of the waves are so soothing to my soul. i love your images, as always. there’s a little place we’ve gone to a couple of times in panama city, fl. my favorite time to go is after the busy season, around early november. beats the snot out of sitting in front of my computer screen with an empty bag of popcorn and not a drop left in my coffee cup while procrastinating making dinner.

For some reason, I’m not a huge beach person (but the Bahamas could have changed that). For me, it’s always been London: same coffee shop, same grocery store, same restaurants. I relish in the same thing . . . kinda like I’m fooling myself into thinking that I really live there.

And the little booty crack is hilariously charming!

Yes! I get that! I have the same feelings for NYC and Chicago. I love having my little fave spots in a large city…a sense of familiarity amidst the hustle and bustle.

we haven’t had a family vacation- just us – in, well, ever. vacation time is so scarce, and it seems like extended family obligations & travel to/with family always takes priority. my parents took me and my brother on a few trips right where you are – they were favorites.

one of these years we’ll go our own way, but right now I’ll have to daydream about your morning routine.

you could throw a nipping pup into that shot of your girl and have got a coppertone ad 🙂

Thanks Debbie! I can appreciate the travel to/with family. We find ourselves in a similar position. It’s a different kind of travel…also good in many ways, but another routine entirely. xo

I live three miles from the ocean and I don’t go very often. What a loser I am.
    Maybe I’ll go tomorrow.
Glad at least someone is enjoying it!

Vacation mornings are my favorite!! The waffle maker, the tv in the bedroom, the maid,..

Beautiful, Laura. It’s fun to see you in a different element. Vacation for us is usually camping or visiting family, and we haven’t done much of either in the past few years as we had a family health crisis and our money and energy was all taken up with that. Things are a lot better this year, and we’re hoping to get away a bit this summer. One of my favorite things about going away is waking up before everyone else and going out for a walk on my own. I’m not usually an early riser, but without the computer distracting me the night before and with so much to see and do, I become one when I am away.
